This collection contains inactive office files of President Mills. The majority of the records date from Mills' tenure as president of the college, but some were retained by the office from previous administrations. The subject files series contains the most composite portrait of the daily ongoings of the college.

The collection contains records, publications, photographs, copy negatives, recordings, and memorabilia from the Bicentennial Committee, Bicentennial Office, and the Bicentennial celebration. The collection documents the planning and construction of the David Saul Smith Union at Bowdoin College. Material includes subject files of Mark Wethli, the committee Chair, architectural plans and drawings of proposed and actual construction, and samples of materials, finishes and furnishings for the building. In addition, there is a series of minutes of meetings with the building contractors from the construction phase of the project.
