Biographical / Historical

The position of Assistant to the President for Multicultural Programs and Affirmative Action Officer originated with the appointment of Gayle Renee Pemberton in 1988 to the position of Director of Minority Affairs. In 1990, the office was renamed and Faith Alyson Perry was appointed Acting Director of Multicultural Affairs. In 1991, Betty C. Thompson (Betty Trout-Kelly) became Assistant to the President for Multicultural Programs. In 1994, the position was again renamed to Assistant to the President for Multicultural Programs and Affirmative Action Officer and now reports directly to the president.
