Baxter House is located at 10 College Street. Baxter House was built in 1901 by Hartley Cone Baxter '78 and Mary Lincoln Baxter. Beginning in 1951 Alpha Sigma Nu occupied Baxter House for twenty years. The Baxter Family Memorial Fund was established in 1973 by his son, John L. Baxter '16 with gifts by John L. Baxter, Jr. '42 and Hartley C. Baxter II '48 in order that all residents may more fully enjoy this Baxter home and their years at Bowdoin College.

Representative, U.S. House of Representatives, 1877-1899, and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, 1889-1891 and 1895-1899.
