Scope and Content
Papers documenting Paul Nyhus's life and career at Bowdoin. Included are obituaries, memorial tributes, photographs, and a 1990 interview conducted by Charles Calhoun, centering on affairs at Bowdoin from 1969-1980. Nyhus's lecture for the Frank Andrew Munsey Professorship as well as other addresses and speeches, and history course syllabi and exams are included.

Biographical/Historical Note
Paul Nyhus (1935-2005) joined the history faculty of Bowdoin College in 1966, specializing in medieval and early modern European history, and he continued in that position until his retirement in 2004. He was the author of numerous scholarly reviews, articles, and books, developing a special interest in the Swiss city of Basel and its Reformation history, the topic of his inaugural lecture as Frank A. Munsey professor. He served as dean of students (1969-1974) and dean of the college (1975-1980) during the Howell and Enteman administrations. Nyhus died August 17, 2005.
