Files document party activities, position surveys, strategies, requests for assistance, personal recommendations for various positions, and campaign activities for Congressman William Hathaway, Governor Kenneth Curtis, Senators Hubert Humphrey, Edmund S. Muskie, George McGovern, Eugene McCarthy, and others. Major issues documented include 1969 party reform efforts following the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago. Mitchell served on the Commission on Structure and Delegate Selection of the Democratic National Committee, called the McGovern Commission. Correspondents include Edward and Robert Kennedy, Morris Udall, Lyndon Johnson, and Hubert Humphrey.
