Biographical / Historical

Baseball was founded at Bowdoin in the fall of 1860 by a group of students that had become acquainted with the sport during the summer of that year. The first game played was between the Senior and Junior Class on September 29, 1860 resulting in a win for the Junior by a score of 23 to 13. The first intercollegiate competition was played against Dartmouth in 1869 establishing a history for the sport with an accumulation of over 1,000 wins in the past 140 years. Between 2005-2015, the Polar Bears have been qualified for the NESCAC Tournament three times, reached the NESCAC Championship, and the NCAA Regional Tournament.

Parts of the series was previously processed as the Baseball Realia series A04.02.05. In Feburary 2024, all sports and atheltics records were consolidated together under the same Record Group, A04.02. This series was moved under the Baseball Program to better provide access to the material intellectually. The series identifier A04.02.05 was deleted and not replaced.
