Description:
Records were created from 1981 through 1994. Material types include constituent correspondence, case logs, office memos, health reports, and notes. Files were generally created following constituent inquiries or problems and contain information pertaining to various state and local issues and events. Topics covered in the case records include the OSHA citation of Boise Cascade, boundary issues at Acadia National Park, the Maine Central Railroad strike of 1987, immigration procedures, spruce budworm spraying from 1982-84, closing of the Bangor H.U.D. office in 1985, buried oil tanks in Bangor Gardens, the Sebec Hydroelectric Project, and transfer of the Bucks Harbor Air Force Station. Also included are files concerning Jim LaBrecque's 1991 effort to publicize the harmful effects of chloroflorocarbons and Col. Richard Wright's 1993 lawsuit against the the Maine National Guard. Specific mention is made of the Bellmon Amendment to Social Security, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a Balanced Budget amendment, and a Voting Rights act, among others. The majority of these files was created by senior field representative Clyde MacDonald.
