Description:

The files in this series contain correspondence between Senate Majority Leader Mitchell and the White House during the George Bush and Bill Clinton administrations, between 1989 and 1994. Issues discussed include security and trade embargos in the Middle East and unrest in the Balkans, international trade, the federal budget, the environment, campaign finance reform, and various social issues. Correspondents from the Bush administration include George Bush, James Baker, John Sununu, Brent Scowcroft, Dick Cheney, Lamar Alexander, and Jack Kemp. Correspondents from the Clinton administration include Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Ron Brown, Lloyd Bentsen, Warren Christopher, Madeleine Albright, Bruce Babbit, Janet Reno, and Les Aspin. Many of the letters preserved in the Mitchell Papers V.I.P. notebook come from this series.
