Contains collection catalogs, circulation records, correspondence and memoranda, annual reports, and account books relating to the operation of the Library and the expansion of its collections and facilities. Also includes exhibit catalogs, exhibit cards and library bookplates. The bulk of the material is from 1890 on; most is contained within the historical files, which begin with the first librarian, and in the library staff's correspondence files.

Articles, Bowdoin College librarians' reports, and other printed material concerning Susan Dwight Bliss's gifts to Bowdoin College, as well as material concerning the extended Bliss family. Also includes images of the interior and exterior of the Bliss residence at 9 East 68th Street in New York City and a putti that was part of the decorative frieze molding in Susan Dwight Bliss's library.
