Correspondents include Carson's mother, Mary Gould Fogg Hunt, her brothers and Bowdoin graduates Charles and Henry Hastings Hunt, her inlaws, the Carson family, and a number of descendants. Of particular notes are the letters Carson wrote to her mother relaying details of the battle of Gettysburg, Charles' wound and its healing, and President Lincoln's visit to Gettysburg.
