Biographical/Historical Note

Latin American Studies is an interdisciplinary program that explores the cultural heritage of Mesoamerica, the Caribbean, and South America. Competence in Spanish or another region appropriate language is required, and students are encouraged to participate in a study-away program in Latin America. In addition to the courses that are offered, there are speakers, theme dinners, film screenings, symposia, service-learning projects, debates and teach-ins organized by students, faculty, and neighborhood associations to foster understanding of Latin American culture.
