Scope and Content

The Math Department records contain materials from the National Science Foundation Summer and Annuals Institutes as well as general Department of Mathematics administrative records. The NSF Institute series includes reports and participant files from both the annual and summer institutes held at Bowdoin in the Maths Department along with experiments and examinations from the students. The Administrative series consists of material from the department itself, including course syllabi, curriculum, examinations, and other course materials.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Mathematics Department at Bowdoin College strives to reflect a curriculum that shows math's practical applications as well as its beauty. It offers multiple interdisciplinary major with economics, computer science, and education to demonstrate the multiple applications of a mathematics background. A major includes of eight courses and the minor, four courses. Student research opportunities, independent study, and Honors are also offered to students interested in investigating a topic in greater depth.
