Biographical/Historical Note

The Russian Department (RUS) at one time offered a major consisting of ten courses and eleven for Honors. The courses included literature in translation, government, history, and economics. The department also participated in an interdisciplinary major in Eurasia and East European studies. Studying abroad was highly encouraged by the department as way to obtain immersion in the culture and language of Siberian people. Advanced independent study and Honors were offered to students interested in pursuing a topic more closely.

Renamed the Department of Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) in December 2023, the department redefined their major and minor to a major/minor in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. As of the 2023-2024 academic year, the department includes a wide variety of cross-departmental course offerings in history, gender studies, and literature.
