Biographical/Historical Note

The Asian Studies Department focuses on a curriculum that incorporates anthropology, art, government, history, literature, film, music, religion, sociology, and language instruction of Chinese and Japanese. Majors can focus on either South Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal) or East Asia (China and Japan). The department encourages students to study abroad in an Asian country to better grasp culture and society, and to incorporate cross-cultural topics from other subjects into their majors.
