Scope and Content

Course materials for environmental studies and economics classes taught by A. Myrick Freeman, including notes, syllabi, handouts, problem sets, and exams. Correspondence and documents relating to Freeman's service as director of Bowdoin's Environmental Studies Program, as well as course material from environmental studies and environmental economics classes he taught, are included on DVDs. Also on DVD are Freeman's files from his participation in the Valuing Nature Workshop held at Bowdoin, 1998-1999. Related papers are held by the Economists Papers Project, Rubenstein Library, Duke University.

Biographical/Historical Note

A. Myrick "Rick" Freeman III, Bowdoin's William D. Shipman Professor of Economics Emeritus, graduated from Cornell University, and earned his master's degree and doctorate at the University of Washington. Upon receiving his Ph.D. in economics in 1965, he joined the Bowdoin faculty, retiring from teaching in 2000. He served as chair of the economics department, director of the Environmental Studies Program, and has authored or co-authored numerous books and scholarly articles.
