Scope and Content
Chiefly portraits of the extended Abbott family. The bulk of the photographs are of Charles Matthew Abbott's sisters and sons. Also included are postcards addressed to Harriette F. Abbott and Mabel L. Abbott, Charles Abbott's military instruction camp certificates, his mother's (Alice Greeley) household ledger, a genealogy compiled by John Tucker Abbott, and miscellaneous material from the extended Abbott family.

Biographical/Historical Note
Charles Matthew Abbott (1879-1956) was the son of John Edward Abbott (1845-1915) and Alice Greeley Cochrane (1855-1930), and the grandson of John Stevens Abbott (1807-1881; Bowdoin Class of 1827). John Stevens Abbott was a descendant of George Abbot of Andover, Massachusetts. (See the Abbott Memorial Collection (M1) for material concerning other descendants of George Abbot, the Abbott brothers John Stevens Cabot, Jacob, and Gorham). Charles Matthew Abbott grew up in Watertown, Massachusetts, with three sisters: Mabel Louise, Harriette Frances, and Eleanor Alice. In 1913 he married Frances Tucker, and they had four sons: John Tucker Abbott, Matthew Cochrane Abbott, Robert Tucker Abbott, and Charles Whitney "Pete" Abbott.
