Biographical/Historical Note

Geoffrey Peter Murray was born on April 9, 1940 in New York City. He attended South Portland High School, received an A.B. from Bowdoin in 1961, then received a master of arts deegree and a doctor a philosophy degree from Johns Hopkins University. In September 1970 he became an assistant professor of romance languages at the University of Maine in Orono. Murray died in a fire on April 18, 1972.
