Scope and Content
The Robert L. Volz Papers are mainly comprised of manuscripts and correspondence pertaining to the article "Longfellow in Music," (1969) written by Volz, in conjunction with Richard Arnell. The material contained within the collection includes: several early, unpublished versions of the article, correspondence with other libraries, universities, and researchers, as well as a variety of other research materials. Also included in the collection are speeches given by Mr. Volz, as well as other miscellanea.

Biographical/Historical Note
Robert Lawrence Volz was born in Milwaukee, WI on 30 Jan. 1938. He was a librarian for the Special Collections department of Bowdoin College (1965-1970). He was the President of Pejepscot Historical Society of Brunswick, ME from 1968-1970. He also served as a librarian of the archives collection at Northwestern University (1963-1965), University of Rochester (1970-1977) and Williams College (1977-). He is a resident of Williamstown, MA.
