Biographical/Historical Note
William Campbell Root was born in Grass Valley, CA on October 26, 1903. He held various teaching positons in chemistry at Bowdoin College from 1932, culminating as the Charles Weston Pickard Professor (1952-1969) and Professor Emeritus in 1969. He was recipient of the James Flack Norris Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Teaching of Chemistry from the American Chemistry Society in 1968. Professor Root passed away in Brunswick on June 13, 1969.
