Notes and manuscripts for Pullen's books "The Twentieth Maine", and "A Shower of Stars: The Medal of Honor and The 27th Maine". Both manuscripts are accompanied by the photographs, maps, and sketches used as illustrations for the works. In addition, there is cover art for "The Twentieth Maine". There are also research files, typescript drafts and other materials related to the research, composition, and publication of "Comic Relief: the Life and Laughter of Artemus Ward, 1834-1867".

Biographical/Historical Note
John James Pullen was born in North Amity, Maine on December 17, 1913 and received an honorary degree from Bowdoin in 1958. He is the author of "The Twentieth Maine" (1957), "A Shower of Stars: The Medal of Honor and The 27th Maine" (1966), "Patriotism in America" (1971), "The Transcendental Boiled Dinner" (1972) and "Comic Relief: the Life and Laughter of Artemus Ward, 1834-1867" (1983).
