Biographical/Historical Note
In April 1963, President James Stacy Coles appointed James P. Granger to the newly-created Business Office post of Controller, a position he retained until his retirement in 1989. When Granger became Controller, the administrative officers of the Business Office also included the Treasurer and Bursar. Administrative oversight of the controllership has changed over the years from the Treasurer, (1963-1966), to Vice President for Administration and Finance (1966-1978), to Treasurer, (1979-1989), to Vice President for Finance and Administration and Treasurer, (1991- ). Throughout the organizational changes, bookkeeping/accounting functions have been part of the Controller's Office.
