Scope and Content
The papers contain notebooks, with drafts of "Twenty American Sketches" and other poetry (1966-67), including "A Commemorative Poem"; letters (1939-48) from her friends, among them poet Marianne Moore and author Angel Flores; translations of four poems by Nicaraguan poets, Alfonso Cortes and Ernesto Mejia Sanchez; notes on her studies of philology (1965-68); and ephemera. There are also photographs of Ms. Fletcher at ages four, ten, and eighteen.

Biographical/Histroical Note
S. Frances Fletcher was born in Bridport, Vermont in 1894, and graduated from Vassar College in 1914. A teacher, and writer and translator for the banking industry, she married Spahr Hourlland in 1935, and in her later years resided in Holliston, Massachusetts.
Fletcher was the author of "A Boat of Glass" (1926), and "A Commemorative Poem", written for the dedication of Hawthorne-Longfellow Library at Bowdoin College in 1966. Some of Fletcher's work was published under the pseudonym "Anne Woodbridge."
