Biographical/Historical Note

Walter Crane Emerson was born on January 18, 1868, in West Waterville (Oakland), Maine. He prepped at Coburn Classical Institute and was graduated from Colby College in 1884. After a long career of authorship and journalism, including employment as manager of the Boston Herald, Emerson retired to Squirell Island, Maine, and worked as local librarian. He completed two books on Maine, The Latchstring (1916), and When The North Winds Blow (1922), and was working on a third, Home Harbours, when he died in May 21, 1929.
