Scope and Contents
The Charles Douglas McGee papers date from 1913 to 1991 and measure 1.5 linear feet in 3 boxes. The papers are arranged in two series: Course Materials and Subject Files. The course materials include examination questions, syllabi, and various teaching resources. The Subject Files series contains resources from Vassar, Harvard, and Bowdoin College’s departments of philosophy as well as reprinted articles written by McGee published in various journals.

Biographical / Historical
Born in Oklahoma in 1926, Charles Douglas McGee was a professor of philosophy at Bowdoin College from 1963 to 1993. He served as the chairperson of the department several times in his tenure. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1949 and a received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1957. McGee taught at Vassar College for ten years before joining the philosophy department at Bowdoin in 1963. He retired from Bowdoin in 1993, becoming professor emeritus. He died later that year.
