Scope and Content

The Student Activities Office records include brochures, lists, budgets, handbooks, and other material regarding student organizations and activities as well as flyers, programs for performances sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, and posters (some signed by performers) that were once hung in Smith Union. The records contain the meeting minutes of the Student Union Committee along with their subject and event files and handbooks from student organizations on campus. Budgets as well as Student Activities Fees Committee records are also a part of the Office records and include financial materials and meeting minutes from the 1970s to 2000s.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Student Activities Office has been an integral part of student life for many decades at Bowdoin. Its primary goals are to provide students with social, cultural, and educational experiences outside the classroom; facilitate leadership development within organizations; and to provide recourses for student events. An activities fair is also coordinated every year during the fall semester to introduce each incoming class to the opportunities at the College.

The Office of Student Activities oversees programs designed to enhance students’ college experience through social, cultural, spiritual, educations, athletic, student government and recreational cocurricular experiences. Student Activities is committed to helping students connect with one another and to facilitating involvement in a wide variety of activities. The Student Activities team provides support for more than 120 student organizations and advise students in producing hundreds of programs a year.
