Scope and Content
Copies of thirty items, mostly letters from Professor Paul Chadbourne (sent while he was a visiting professor at Bowdoin College) to Captain Charles Everett Ranlett. The correspondence concerns arrangements for the Williams College Lyceum of Natural History expedition to Greenland in 1860. Expedition members included seventeen college students (eleven from Williams College, three from Bowdoin College, two from Harvard College and one from Columbia College). The collection also includes rosters of expedition members and letters from Admiral McClintock to Captain Ranlett in 1896-1897. See also the 1860 entries in Reminiscences by Simeon A.
