Series Description:

From the Series:

This series contains correspondence both to and from Hilton Kramer. Because Kramer's personal and professional lives intertwine, letters often contain both personal and professional content. While the letters reflect a myriad of topics, many letters request Kramer's participation in events or solicit writings for publication; some small number include his replies. There are a number of letters written to Kramer upon his resignation from the "New York Times". There is frequent correspondence with a small number of close friends of Kramer including Joseph Epstein, Stanley Burnshaw, and Daniel Curley. Kramer had a long friendship with the writer Josephine Herbst and served as executor of her estate (both personal and literary) upon her death in 1969. There are numerous letters between Kramer and Herbst, as well as letters between Kramer and various individuals with interests in Herbst's estate.
