1680: Als to John Mattern
Scope and Content
37 letters, essays and documents, in German, English or both languages; a few accompanied by modern transcriptions and translations. Most letters are to or from Prache or Mattern. The documents include an inventory of household belongings and a 1795 communication from the Yearly Meeting of Women in England to its sister group in Philadelphia. The essays include "A Testimony and Apology for ye Truth ..." written in German by Johann Georg Mattern with a second title page in English. There are several other 17th-century pieces relating to early Friends, including one signed by Roger Longworth (1640?-1687), though many items in German are untranslated and therefore unidentified.
