Series Description:
A new hockey rink to replace Dayton Arena (built in 1956) was a campaign commitment of The Bowdoin Campaign. Though officially launched November 10, 2006, the campaign began its "quiet phase" on July 1, 2004. With the campaign underway, planning began for the new hockey rink. This series contains the hockey rink files of Scott Meiklejohn, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Assistant to the President. Included are architectural proposals, background material, presentations, drawings, estimates, meeting minutes, and notes. Bear Mountain Design Architects Collaborative, Ltd. was chosen as architect for the new arena; Pro Con, Inc. was the contractor. At the groundbreaking ceremony on June 2, 2007, President Mills announced that the arena would be named Watson Arena, in honor of Sid Watson, Ashmead White Director of Athletics. Construction began September 2007, and Watson Arena officially opened January 18, 2009.
