Series Description:
In October 2004 the Bowdoin College Board of Trustees gave final approval to a renovation of the Walker Art Building, home to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. After interviewing seven architectural firms, Machado and Silvetti Associates was chosen for the project. Responding to historic preservationists and concerned members of the College community and public, the firm modified their original design to retain the staircase leading from the campus quad to the Museum rotunda. The Museum was closed from July 2005 until October 2007 while construction was underway; reopening October 14, 2007. Included in this series are architectural proposals, presentations, and drawings, as well articles, newspaper clippings, notes, background material, and planning documents.
