Series Description:
Correspondence between Charles Vaughan, Sarah Vaughan, Benjamin Vaughan, Frances Western Apthorp (later Vaughan) and other family members concerning day-to-day family life as well as business and financial matters and politics. The correspondents also include Joseph Priestly, Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Perigord, and George Washington. Letters reflect life and business in Jamaica, London (England), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), Boston (Massachusetts) and Hallowell (Maine), among other places. Also contains a few legal and financial documents and a poem by 17-year old Charles Vaughan, and an atlas of 18th century maps of manuscript plates depicting Revolutionary War campaigns, English counties, and Jamaican slave-holding properties.
