Series Description:
McArthur family correspondence, chiefly 19th century, including Civil War letters from Arthur, Jr. and William, and also correspondence with non-family members. The majority of the family correspondence is among Arthur McArthur, Sr., (739 letters), Sarah Miltimore McArthur (140 letters), Arthur McArthur, Jr., (94 letters), William Miltimore McArthur (396 letters), Catherine McArthur (511 letters), Duncan McArthur (60 letters), Charles Stuart McArthur (132 letters), and Malcolm McArthur (316 letters). The series also contains 58 letters (1874-1892) written by and to George G. Colby of Limerick, Maine that are filed at the end of the chronological run of correspondence.
