The largest component of this series concerns Hall's English Romanticism course, teaching the origins, growth, and nature of romanticism with emphasis on the pre-Romantics and Blake, Wordsworth, and Coleridge. He taught this course from 1946 to 1985. Notes and other material are also included for his American Literature I course in pre-Civil War fiction with an emphasis on Hawthorne and Melville, taught at Bowdoin from 1973 to 1985. Additional materials document a one-time course, The Ethical Component in Medical Judgment, Philosophy 10, spring 1986, taught by Hall and Daniel Hanley, M.D. This course resulted from a humanistic curriculum in medical education developed in 1973 by Hall and Dr. Hanley for the Family Practice Residency Institute of Augusta, Maine. Also part of this series are Hall's notes from the Bowdoin College philosophy course, Semantics, audited in spring 1947, and his notes from Theories of Poetry, one of his graduate school courses, 1938-39.
