Series Description:

Contains records regarding these related programs, from 1956-1968. These programs continue to work to bring foreign students to Bowdoin and provide support for them. The Bowdoin Plan was initiated in 1947 when Joseph Wheeler, an undergraduate, proposed to President Sills that each of Bowdoin's fraternities sponsor a student from a foreign country, providing food and lodging, while the college waived tuition charges. Bowdoin began participation in A.S.P.A.U., or the African Scholarship Program, by 1960.
