Series Description:
As noted in the prospectus dated May 1, 1839, the Bowdoin Port-Folio was a student literary periodical with each number containing one or more contributions from alumni and an "Editor's Table" with news relevant to alumni. The July 1839 number includes "Leaves from Hyperion", an unpublished romance by Professor Henry W. Longfellow. Both bound volumes include all numbers, April 1839-December 1839 (no May 1839 was issued), as well as an 1838 Peucinian Society catalogue and the 1837 Laws of Bowdoin College. In addition, volume 1 includes an annotated index of signatures and an 1840 Catalogus Bowdoinensis, whereas volume 2 includes Bowdoin College forms belonging to Benjamin Franklin Parsons (Bowdoin 1841) and an oration by Caleb Cushing.
