Bowdoin College Calendar (Sundial), January 1992 - May 1997
Scope and Contents
The College Calendar began publication in 1937. A weekly calendar of events and announcements concerning the college community, it included the times and dates of sporting events, and lectures; the speaker and topic of the daily chapel meeting; dates and times of final exams; a listing of current exhibits at the Walker Art Building; and any other information or announcements considered relevant. The Calendar continued to publish its weekly list of events and information even after "The Bowdoin Thymes" began its run as a daily listing of events and announcements. In 1986 the title changed somewhat to the Bowdoin College Calendar and News, as the publication added a "News Notes" section that publicized faculty and staff activities, such as outside lectures, awards and honors. In September 1989 the Calendar and News was replaced by the bi-weekly Sundial: The Bowdoin College Community Calendar and News. Primarily aimed at faculty, and staff, the Sundial contains a two-week calendar of events, and an expanded section of news and stories of interest to that constituency. Beginning August 1991, the Sundial was published weekly, and continued publication until May 1997.
