Anonymous treatise on natural history, referring among others to Buffon, Le Cat, Bruzen de La Martiniere, and to various periodicals such as Le Mercure de France. From a philosophical and medical perspective, the author considers the stages of physical and sexual development of men and women from childhood to death. Other themes, sometimes anecdotal, include: the education of children; the prejudices of men on virginity; circumcision and infibulation; the castration of eunuchs; varieties in the human species; criticism of the condition of enslaved Black people; the sense organs: and the position of humans within the context of the animal kingdom
