Scope and Contents
The series includes photographs of Stratton taken throughout his life as well as photographs taken by Stratton. The series includes photos from Brunswick, Maine and postcards collected by Stratton around the world. A large collection of photographs was taken in India, Madagascar, and Turkey. These images were used in his three travel publications – One Man’s India (1955), The Great Red Island: A biography of Madagascar (1964), and Sinan: Biography of One of the World’s Greatest Architects and a Portrait of the Golden Age of the Ottoman Empire (1972). A large poster from the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and an oversized sheet of Arabic calligraphy (khatt) are also a part of the series.
