[Energy] [8/14]
Description:
Material includes memos, reports, notes, and correspondence. Major issues include the economic and environmental impact of different energy sources, including nuclear energy, oil, natural gas, hydroelectric, and tidal. Particular attention was given to taxes on oil and federal assistance programs such as Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the purpose of which was to keep heating costs down for Maine citizens. Some files focus on the benefits and potential hazards of nuclear energy. This series also includes early records on the Dickey-Lincoln hydroelectric project. Energy legislation is usually considered by the senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The records were primarily created by Steve Hart, with some general files maintained by Deborah Cotter. Most of the early records on this subject were maintained by Grace Reef and Martha Pope.
