Chase Land Deeds, 1837-1877
Scope and Contents
Oct. 19, 1837, Daniel Chase of Brunswick, Ship master, for $400 to Mary Elizabeth Chase of Brunswick, singlewoman, one undivided seventh part of the homestead estate of my late Father Samuel Chase Esq. deceased, being the same form which was formerly owned by Benjamin Chase, bounded E by Maquoit Bay, S by land of Robert Woodside, W by Ira Merryman and others, N by the widow Roda Marriners land. Also all the right title and interest which Hannah Hodgedon had in said estate as one of the heirs of Said Benjamin Chase, decd., which she conveyed to me. [Signed a second deed, Apr. 5, 1843]; Oct. 19, 1837, Julia Chase of Brunswick, singlewoman, for $400 to Mary Elizabeth Chase of Brunswick, singlewoman, one undivided seventh part ….; Feb. 13, 1840, Hannah Maria Chase of Brunswick, singlewoman, for $400 to Mary Elizabeth Chase of Brunswick, singlewoman, one undivided seventh part ….; Aug. 4, 1843, Mary Elisabeth Chase of Brunswick, single woman, for $600, to George Bartol of Portland, Merchant, one yoke of oxen, one red mare, four cows, two yearling heifers, two calves, one wagon 2 harness for the same, all being now on the place occupied by me, being the home stead farm of the late Samuel Chase deceased.; Aug. 4, 1843, Mortgage Deed, Mary Elizabeth Chase of Brunswick Singlewoman for $2400, to George Bartol of Portland, three seventh part in common and undivided of land and buildings being the homestead farm or estate of Samuel Chase Esquire late of said Brunswick….. If the said Mary Elizabeth Chase pay to the said George Bartol $2400 within two years, also four certain promissory notes for $600 each in six, twelve, eighteen, and twenty-four months … [this bill of sale] shall all be void; July 18, 1846, Mary E. Chase of Brunswick, for $1700, to Nathl Dunning of Brunswick, a certain tract of land, beginning at the county road, at SW line of heirs of John Marriner, NW to NE corner of Ira Merriman’s land, SW then SE to first bounds, 66 acres; Jan. 1, 1847, Ellen S. Chase of Portland, for $380 to William Woodside of Brunswick, one seventh part of all real estate which belonged to Samuel Chase of said Brunswick, in Brunswick and Freeport ….; Jan. 1, 1848, Susan O. Chase and Ellen S. Chase of Brunswick, singlewomen, for the sum of $400 each, to Capt. William Woodside, one seventh part each of the homestead estate of my late father Samuel Chase; Nov. 2, 1848, Aaron Winslow of Brunswick for $1200 to William Woodside of Brunswick, land situated in Brunswick Village, beginning on Maine Street at NE corner of land occupied by Jotham Varney, N 3 rods to a cross street, W on said cross street to land of Isaac Varney, S on Isaac Varney land to land of Jotham Varney, then E to first bounds; Dec. 5, 1851, Mary Elizabeth Chase singlewoman of Brunswick for $1200 to William Woodside, three sevenths part of the homestead farm of Samuel Chase formerly of Brunswick Deceased, the said three sevenths part being undivided and bounded [N Ira Merryman; E Widow Marriner; S Maquoit Bay; W Robert Woodside], and for a more particular description, a reference may be had to a deed of Warrantee from Hannah Maria Chase Mar. 15, 1840, recorded in Book 167, Page 293.; July 11, 1854, Mortgage Deed, Arthur Woodside for $11600 to William Woodside, a certain parcel of land conveyed by said William Woodside by his deed of this date, to which reference is had for a more particular description. Provided nevertheless that if the said Arthur Woodside pay to the said William Woodside $1600 [arrangement for payment within 6 years, the bill of sale will be void. Signed Arthur Woodside, Phebe Woodside; June 6, 1857, Arthur Woodside of Brunswick for $250 to Levi B. Thompson, Brunswick, one yolk of oxen, four cows, four yearlings, viz 2 heifers and one yolk of steers, meaning and intending to convey to the said Thompson all the stock owned by me and now on the farm I occupy in Brunswick, provided that the said AW pay $185.65 in 3 months, then this bill of sale, and also a certain note of hand given by said Woodside to said Thompson, shall be void. On back, Sept. 19, 1857, Levi B. Thompson, in consideration of $199.09 paid by William Woodside, hereby assign set over sell & convey to the said William Woodside the within mortgage together with all rights and interests.; Apr. 17, 1877, James P. Weeman of Brunswick, for $863.65 to Mrs. C.C. Woodside of Brunswick, S side of High Street, beginning at the NW corner of land of Minnie M. Balcome, then W on the south line of High street 114 feet to land of said CC Woodside, thence S on easterly line of land of CC Woodside to land of Clement Skolfield and land of Mrs. Dennett and Franklin Adams to W line of land of said Balcome, then to corner first named; Nov. 15, 1875, William R. Fields of Brunswick and Albert B. Collins of Bath, $750 to Charles E. Stone of Brunswick, the frame wooden Livery Stable and office in Brunswick on W side of Main St. in said Brunswick Village and one Bay Mare called the Merryman Mare 15 years old, etc., being all the horses, sleighs, Harnesses, Robes & carriages which said Stone conveyed to us Oct. 19, 1875, and the same stable and office [Q: the same livery stable and office that Edward H.
