Files in this series were created from 1988 through 1994. Material types include transcripts, correspondence, memos, and clippings regarding information and statements that were released to the press. Subjects covered in the files concern issues such as health care and campaign finance reform. Also included are Senator Mitchell's statements on the environment, especially in relation to clean air, global warming, oil spills, and the wetlands. Significant events covered by the files are the sexual harrassment case involving Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas, as well as the 1992 Los Angeles riots in the aftermath of the Rodney King case. Also included is Mitchell's fight against the 1992 proposed balanced budget amendment regarding the reduction of the national deficit.
