Description:

From the Sub-Series:

Files in this series were created from 1984 through 1994. Material includes notes, memos, correspondence, reports, journal articles, and press clippings. Topics include the state of mental health care, veteran's homes, occupational therapy, and nursing shortages. This series also includes material covering Maine family practices and community health clinics. Material also concerns access to health care, focusing on insurance coverage and public health issues, including smoking and AIDS. There is material about providing funds for the rebuilding of the Jackson Laboratory in Maine, which burned in 1989. Other topics include recruitment of nurses, nursing degree programs, and the effect of the nursing shortage on rural health care in Maine. Many reports, newsletters, and correspondence are from Maine health care-related associations such as the Maine Head Injury Foundation or the Maine Public Health Association, many of which groups were state chapters of national organizations. Files were kept by Christine Williams. Some files on long-term care and Medicare/Medicaid programs are interfiled in this series. Additional files on public health care are in the Public Health Care series. Files on veterans' homes and veterans' health care are also found in Veterans' Affairs.
