 File — offsite-box: 243, Folder: 1
Identifier: M202.6.2.2.2

Description:

From the Sub-Series:

Files in this series include memos, reports, notes, correspondence, copies of legislation, and books. These files focused on parks, especially the Acadia National Park in Maine and the issue of expanding its borders. In addition there are files about the preservation of historic landmarks and monuments, especially Maine lighthouses, and about forests, particularly ownership of the northern forests in Maine. Files about the forests and parks both contain some information about wildlife. Files also include some material on the Indian Land Claims settlement authorization, which Senator Mitchell helped negotiate in 1980 and which represents one of his first major senatorial accomplishments. Books on forestry and parks are also included. These files were maintained primarily by Steve Hart. Early files were maintained by Martha Pope and Estelle Lavoie; their files contain some material from Edmund Muskie's senate office. A small number of general files on forest, parks, and wildlife was maintained by Deborah Cotter.
