Description:

From the Sub-Series:

Files in this series were created from 1983 through 1994 and contain case files and logs, reports, correspondence, memos, administrative notes, grant information, military academy nomination files, and press clippings. Case files address numerous sindividual problems; project files concern Lewiston housing issues, community block grants, Farmers' Home Administration loans, urban redevelopment projects such as the Bates Mill rehabilitation project, labor issues, the Lewiston Regional Vocational School, fuel assistance programs, rural health care, the Air National Guard and low-level flights over western Maine, and the Tomahawk Cruise Missile Referendum. Administrative files document the working relationship between the Lewiston field office and the Washington D.C. Senate office, such as memos from Senate office aides on legislative developments and outlining the finer points of such complicated subjects as Medicare and Medicaid, policy information regarding issues such as maintaining neutrality during local primaries and elections, procedures such as those for communicating with members of the press, pay and vacation issues, and others. Field office representatives were Janet Welch, Joan Pederson, and Charlie Jacobs.
