Files contain case and project logs, correspondence, reports, newsletters, press clippings, and memos. Records span the years from 1985 through 1994. The majority of records involves issues concerning the closing of Loring Air Force Base (such as lawsuits, environmental clean-up, health care, defense conversion, and suggestions for reuse). Other issues include the revitalization of the Maine potato industry- the blight disaster, the potato trade ban with Canada, and the controversial use of Fusilade; Clinton's aid package to Russia (April 1993); U.S./Russia air safety; Van Buren Hospital cutbacks; veteran counseling and clinic in Aroostook County; St. John and Aroostook River ice damage control; the property tax fund for Houlton band of Maliseet Indians; and the East-West highway development.

Significant events concerning Loring Air Force Base closure are the closure hearings, state meetings, the Base Closure and Realignment commissioners' visit, and the fuel spill of October 1, 1992. Other events include the Fort Fairfield fuel spill and clean-up from 1987-1991, the forest fire around the Alagash River of May 1992, and the St. John's Valley flooding of August 1991. Organizations in these records (mostly involved with Loring Air Force Base) are the Save Loring Committee, the National Association of Installation Developers, the Defense Conversion Assistance Program, the Loring Readjustment Committee, the Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Installation Restoration Program, and the Farmer's Home Administration. Other information regarding Loring Air Force Base and its closure may be found in the Loring Air Force Base series.
