Background Note:

The Portland field office was the "flagship" of the Mitchell field offices. This office formed the front line for dealing with local issues as well as for organizing visits by the Senator to the state. Media information and relations were organized from this location, and this office was the clearinghouse for certain types of local information, especially the status of grants received by agencies and organizations in the state.
